Beau’s, Bullfrog Power launch new solar project at Ottawa’s Just Food Farm

Ottawa, Ontario – Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider and Beau’s Brewing Co., based in Vankleek Hill, Ontario, are announcing the launch of a new solar project in Ottawa. The 10 kW project is being developed in partnership with Just Food, an organization working toward just and sustainable food and farming systems in the Ottawa Region. A free community celebration will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, at the Just Food Farm where members of the public can learn more about, and celebrate, local good food projects.

“Bullfrog Power and Beau’s took an early interest in Just Food’s community farm when they committed to helping us develop our own solar project,” said Moe Garahan, Executive Director, Just Food. “Thanks to this very generous support, we were able to partner with a range of funding partners to do even more to strengthen Just Food’s mission of working towards vibrant, just and sustainable food and farming systems in the Ottawa Region.”

As a result of its customers’ support, Bullfrog Power is able to contribute to this project through its community renewable projects program. The company works with communities from coast to coast to coast to provide critical early-stage funding for green energy projects—such as solar panels on schools and community centres and renewable projects with Indigenous communities. Beau’s Brewing Co., a long-time supporter of Just Food and a bullfrogpowered business since 2014, is committed to advancing local renewable energy projects that can make change in their communities. Together, Bullfrog Power and Beau’s helped to finance the solar installation and assist Just Food in its mission to promote sustainable agriculture in Eastern Ontario.

“I believe that beer tastes better when you feel good about drinking it. I’m proud that our independent, employee owned brewery is able to support Just Food, an amazing, dynamic and important organization in our local community,” said Steve Beauchesne, CEO of Beau’s Brewing Co.

“Beau’s is a true game changer—being one of the first companies in Canada to directly address  their energy-related emissions footprint with all three of Bullfrog Power’s green energy offerings: green electricity, green natural gas and green fuel,” said Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power. “We’re excited to be a part of this unique collaboration, where an innovative local business that champions green energy is also helping a local non-profit develop their own new renewable energy generation.”

To launch the newly renovated Just Food Farm and the new solar project, a community celebration event will be held at the Just Food Farm location (2389 Pepin Court, Ottawa, ON) from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 14th, 2017. This free event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend, rain or shine.
