Toronto, Ontario – On Friday February 17th, Henderson Brewing Co. will host a release party for the 10th in its monthly Ides Series. The event will introduce the winner of the 2016 Henderson Cup Prize – Ed Hitchcock – and the collaborative brew made for the event.
The Henderson Cup started as an idea to celebrate the creativity and ingenuity of home brewers in our city. Each year we seek out the best beers and crown one the brewers Henderson Cup Champion. The reward: $1000 + the opportunity to create a beer with us for brewing and release as the Ides of February.
Our winner this year is Ed Hitchcock. Ed is an award winning, long time home brewer who returned to the hobby after a hiatus of nearly two decades. Like Rip Van Winkle, he has found himself in a brave new world of ingredients and techniques to explore. The Henderson Cup winning beer was achieved with a raspberry Lambic style ale, aged patiently for 22 years. The Ides of February is a Raspberry Black IPA which brings to life the spirit of his winning Lambic in a more reasonable time.
The Henderson Cup itself will also be on display – a repurposed, solid-silver, bowling trophy from 1939 that was once won by co-founder Steve Himel’s grandfather. Since we haven’t really had a cup in town since 1967, its nice to know that this one will never leave.
