Bracebridge, Ontario – This spring Muskoka Brewery will be releasing 355mL 6 packs of their Detour Session IPA and Craft Lager, featuring a carrier that uses 95% less plastic than the average plastic ring.
Developed by packaging company WestRock, the Can Collar™ is a durable, environmentally friendly ring alternative, made from 86% paperboard, a renewable, fiber-based material, using the minimum amount of material required to still firmly hold the cans in place, and be water resistant. The Can Collar™ is recyclable where facilities exist to recover poly-coated paperboard products.
“When we made the decision to release six pack cans, we felt compelled to find an environmentally-friendly six pack carrier,” said Todd Lewin, president, Muskoka Brewery. “We worked hand in hand with WestRock to source the most environmentally friendly solution available. As far as we know, we’re the first company to offer this alternative to plastic rings in Canada. Looking to the future, our goal is to source and use a 100 per cent bio-degradable carrier.”
In 2017, Muskoka Brewery will contribute to impactful fresh water stewardship initiatives across Ontario that will help safeguard 102,867 meters of shoreline, engage 335 volunteers and reach more than 10,000 individuals through outreach and education on the importance of protecting sources of fresh water.
