Steam Whistle teams up with Dufflet

Toronto, Ontario –  Indulge yourself (or your sweetheart) in beer and chocolate, two of life’s sweetest pleasures combined in a new gift pack at the LCBO & the brewery showcasing chocolates infused with Steam Whistle Pilsner made by Toronto’s Queen of Cake, Dufflet. This gift pack retailing for $24.95 includes 6 bottles of Steam Whistle and a collectible tin with 8 hand-crafted beer bites & truffles.

While the gift pack doesn’t specifically say Valentine’s – no red hearts or cupids on the packaging – you can find this gift pack on shelves at select LCBO stores now for the buildup to the “holiday of love and affection.” This gift satisfies both partners with its dual contents of craft beer and artisan chocolates. Not just for romantics, the gift pack makes for a great birthday or hostess present, or for personal consumption by foodies everywhere.

As with the proliferation of styles and flavour mashups in craft beer, chocolate has enjoyed the same level of exploration of late; chocolate infused with internationally-sourced chili, sea salt, exotic fruits, nuts or nougat is sold alongside old-fashioned milk or dark chocolates. Baker and Chocolatier Dufflet Rosenberg, of Toronto’s famed Dufflet Pastries, approached Steam Whistle a year ago with the idea to create beer-infused chocolates after sampling some in her travels. Months of taste-testing ensued until Dufflet and the brewery settled on two favourites. In the Pretzel Beer Bites, Dufflet infuses Steam Whistle’s Czech-style Pilsner into a chocolate ganache, surrounds it with a crunchy mix of pretzels, vanilla cookie crumbs and white chocolate, then covers it in milk chocolate. Beer Ganache Truffles get their rich, malty essence from the Pilsner-ganache filling enrobed in dark chocolate. A keepsake tin of eight beer chocolates included with six bottles of Steam Whistle makes this the perfect pair to share.

“We decided to approach Steam Whistle with our idea for beer chocolates because we know they make the best Pilsner in Canada”, affirms Dufflet Rosenberg. “And, we liked the partnership because of our shared ethos and history… both companies are believers in premium, natural ingredients & artisanal methods, strong branding and gutsy entrepreneurship”, explains Greg Taylor, co-founder of Steam Whistle Brewing. “We met years ago at the Entrepreneur of the Year awards and our paths crossed again recently both having been recipients of the City of Toronto Bike-Friendly Business Awards. Seems there were forces at work to bring us together.”
