Thornbury, Ontario – Simcoe.com and Canadian Beer News have reported that Thornbury Village Cider House and Brewery have made a pitch to council for brewery expansion. Derek Cartlidge, chief financial officer and Mark Krech, vice-president of operations of Colio Estate Winery made a presentation to the committee of the whole on Feb. 27 about the expansion of the Thornbury Village Cidery.
Currently, the Thornbury Village cider brands and small batches of beer are produced in the company’s namesake community, while full-scale beer production takes place in a facility 120 km southeast in Nobleton.
“We are the No. 1 craft cider in Ontario, hands down, there is no doubt about that. It makes so much sense to do the two things together. We believe it’s becoming a key tourism driver for this town and we want to build on that” Cartlidge said.
The company said the new expansion will feature 30-foot clearance, which is just right for brewing tanks. They also plan to install an elevator.
The company is hoping to get site plan approval in May, break ground in June and open the facility in December.
