Walkerville Brewery helps support campaign to immortalize whiskey baron

Windsor, Ontario – The WindsorStar has reported that a campaign to immortalize whiskey baron and community builder Hiram Walker with a larger-than-life $400,000 sculpture received a $70,000 boost this past week.

Walkerville Brewery gave $10,000 towards the project while the Windsor-Essex Community Foundation and the Windsor Port Authority each gave $25,000.  The liquor companies associated with the Hiram Walker business (Pernod Rickard) and Walker’s famous Canadian Club brand (Beam Suntory) each gave $5,000.

“This monument will stand forever as a reminder of our collective values about our city, about our people and about all our progress that has happened, much of which started with Hiram Walker.”

Mayor Drew Dilkens said he’s seen the clay model of Walker that artist Mark Williams is using to create the bronze statue. “I can only tell you it is stunning,” he said.

Walker’s likeness will be eight feet, three inches tall, standing atop barrels that will bring the total height to more than 11 feet.
