Thunder Bay, Ontario – Sleeping Giant Brewing Company is raising a glass to
the Craft Cares movement. The Thunder Bay brewery announced a grand total of $15,590 to be donated to 61 charities and non-profit organizations across Ontario, through the second installment of the fundraising initiative.
For every Sleeping Giant Brewing Company product that was sold at participating Licensee locations between January 1st and Valentine’s Day, $0.50 was donated to a charity or organization of the Licensee’s choice. This year’s Craft Cares movement expanded outside of the Thunder Bay area, with 81 locations participating including Burlington, Cobalt, Cochrane, Dryden, Fort Frances, Hearst, Kapuskasing, Kirkland Lake, Little Current, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sioux Lookout, St. Joseph’s Island, Sudbury, Timmins, and Whitefish Falls.
“Beer is all about bringing people together. Sleeping Giant Brewing Company is dedicated to supporting our communities where our beer is sold and enjoyed. The Craft Cares movement provides our team with the opportunity to make an impact through our product and give back to local causes that matter the most to our Licensees and customers,” says Sleeping Giant Brewing Company Cofounder & CEO, Andrea Mulligan. “Sleeping Giant Brewing Company strives to nurture a collaborative beer culture while supporting healthier and more vibrant communities. It’s awesome to see so many people, families, children, animals, programs and important causes, benefit from our beer. We are celebrating kegs of happiness today.”
The 2020 campaign also incorporated a new brew. For every Craft Cares Rosé beer sold, a portion of the sale was donated to the movement. The Top 3 Fundraising Licencees and their selected charity/non-profit organizations are:
- The Moose, North Bay – $750 to North Bay Warming Centre
- Loch Lomond, Thunder Bay- $739.50 to PRO Kids
- The Foundry, Thunder Bay – $703 to Kurt Martell Family (The Foundry has committed to match the donation. A total of $1406 will be contributed).
The Foundry is participating in Craft Cares for its second year. The movement has special meaning to staff, providing the chance to honour one of the establishment’s original bartenders, who lost a courageous battle with cancer in 2017. “Craft Cares is an awesome initiative created by one of our favourite business partners. The Foundry tries to do anything we can for our friend Kurt Martell, who we lost about three years ago. Anytime we can show our love to his family, we jump at the opportunity,” says Foundry Owner, Dane Newbold.
“The Craft Cares initiative, and the efforts of the Sleeping Giant Brewing Company staff and its Licensees, reinforces what an amazing and generous community we live in. It’s local businesses, supporting local services, and that is so meaningful and important. The funds raised go back into our community to help those in need, ” says PRO Kids Marketing & Fundraising Assistant, Ally Drombolis.
Over the past two years, the Sleeping Giant Brewing Company’s Craft Cares has donated $26,942, to 69 charities and organizations. The Sleeping Giant Brewing Company team has hopes for other breweries to join and embrace the movement in 2021.
